Gymnema sylvestre is a herb that has always been used for its medicinal benefits. But a series of studies in the 90’s catapulted it to heights of popularity that can only be described as phenomenal. From a herb that was seen to be beneficial for diabetics it became one from which people started expecting miracles! So, has the gymnema herbal supplement lived up to these huge expectations? Reading further is the only way to find out!

These studies in the early 90’s, pointed out that gymnema sylvestre extracts when administered to diabetic animals, resulted in:

  • Improved glucose homeostasis
  • Regeneration of beta cells in the pancreas.

If you are wondering what is so special about these findings, you should know that this was the first ever compound to display the ability to lessen the effect of diabetes by impacting the functions of the pancreas. Impairment of the pancreas, characterized by abnormalities in beta cells which produce insulin, is a common feature of both type I and type II diabetes.

So, when scientists found out that this herb can actually repair and regenerate the beta cells of the pancreas, this was nothing short of a landmark discovery in the fight against diabetes, which happens to be one of the most common ailments of the human race.

Also, during this period of time, scientists administered gymnema sylvestre based treatment to both type I and type II diabetics, for more than two years. The results in case of type II diabetics showed that:

  • Gymnema sylvestre extracts can reduce blood glucose significantly and also reduce glycosylated hemoglobin and plasma proteins.
  • Patients could reduce the dosage of conventional diabetes drugs. Amazingly, 25% of the participants in this study were able to discontinue the usage of oral anti-diabetic medicines without any problems at all! Gymnema sylvestre was enough for them to continue blood glucose homeostasis.
  • In addition to this, gymnema sylvestre extracts reduced cholesterol, triglycerides and fatty acids in most of the participants.

In type I diabetics, gymnema extracts showed its positive effects such as:

  • Reduced requirements of insulin due to lower insulin resistance.
  • Almost complete normalization of serum lipid levels due to continued use of gymnema sylvestre extracts. This can also help in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and thus stop further degeneration of your health.

So, you may have understood by now that, gymnema sylvestre supplements can be really beneficial for you, if you suffer from diabetes. If you use it, you may brand it a miracle as well!
